Back in the Saddle. - August 23, 2007

Just wanted to let you know that I was back on my bike today. I had to buy a brand new shiny bike (I totaled the old one), which was fun. It is blue-purple, which isn't my color, but otherwise it is very masculine. The arm is feeling good. It cracks and pops and I still can't get it to change diapers, but we should be a go for the CD release party. -Marty

Sticks and Stones... - August 16, 2007

Well, suffice it to say that this old adage is partly true. Marty, whilst commuting home from work on is oh-so-eco-friendly bicycle, somehow fell and broke his arm. His bass-playing arm. His lyric writing arm. So please send him your good wishes, and let's hope for a speedy recovery.

It's not the heat...it's the humility. - July 27, 2007

Seriously, it's freaking humid! Iowa should just build a gigantic dehumidifier. Could some of you engineers get on that? Makes me think longingly of fall...does anyone know when the first day of fall is?... September 23rd?

Hmm...that's also the Plane's CD RELEASE SHOW AT THE MILL. Oh yes. Have you marked your calendars yet? It will be at 7pm, non-smoking on a Sunday. Our Fabulous Outfit is going to haul their gear up from Missouri to open the show with their folk-grass mindset and obviously interesting attire.

Documentary by Seth Deihl - July 17, 2007

This documentary covers the basics, the how, the why, the stash. Enjoy!

"I wouldn't call it irritating...I'd call it endearing." - July 14, 2007

quote- JJ on Mitch's ability to rip out a Beatles' riff at any moment.

New Album Coming! - March 26, 2007

We just finished recording a full length album...finally. The engineer is finishing up the last of the mixing TONIGHT!

Thank you for checking our site. More details to follow on how to get your hands on a sizzling copy of the upcoming Sleeping Planes release. --Martin

Wow, I suck at keeping this up! - October 22, 2006

The Sleeping Planes are coming back at you shortly. We will be at the Mill Nov 3rd. There will be a Des Moines band joining us called Why Make Clocks? We are excited to be playing with them.

JJ was gone for the summer, but now he is back, so we are trying to get into the swing of things. We really are working on an album. We are on the Axle Rose/Guns and Roses release plan, but it really will exist in the near future, I promise.

Thanks for checking our site. We love you.

Talk of Iowa, New MP3's and album update. - March 21, 2006

I've added some new MP3's to the site. "I Could" and "Other Men" will both be on the Planes' upcoming album, but not in the current downloadable form. Marty, JJ and Brian Cooper (our drummer) have been hammering out rhythm tracks for the upcoming debut and having a good time doing it. It's a total DIY project, but we're pleased with the early results.

Also of note, we will be doing "The Talk of Iowa" with Ben Kieffer at the downtown Java House in Iowa City on March 24th. We are hoping not to blow it in front of the estimated 30,000 listeners that tune in to this show every week. In general, it is harder to picture a radio audience naked to assuage nerves, but I'll be delighted to try. As always, thanks for visiting the site. --Marty

Blurb - September 30, 2005

For you faithful returners out there, I feel compelled to add some new content to the site for you. Here it is. This stuff I'm writing is the new content.

Things are well. Martin just had a son. He was a nine pounder and had a dimple in his chin.

Cory got married recently. We endorse her husband 100%.

What can I say about JJ? Let's just say, it's all coming together.

Who are "The Sleeping Planes?" - September 9, 2005

The Sleeping Planes are a group of friends who came together with the intention of making music that we like and that satisfies our need to be people who "make stuff." JJ Alberhasky has been writing songs for years and has released a couple of solo albums. Martin Carpenter recently released a solo album called "Sheepish" on Paisley Pop records. (see "links" section of this site). Cory Hutchinson-Reuss brings an incredible voice and amazing sense of artistic sensibility. We look forward to getting to know those of you who connect with our music. We are currently working on a studio album of songs written by both JJ and Martin with a release date yet to be announced. There are samples in the "music" section of the site. Thank you for visiting.
